The Speight family came from Greene County, NC in about 1837. It is said that there were three brothers who came from NC with one stopping in the vicinity of Nashville. William T. Speight coming to Henry County, TN and the third going on to Mississippi. It is believed that he may have been the Jesse Speight who became a Congressman or Senator from MS. The log house at the cemetery site of Speight Cemetery, located about 2 miles north of Olive Branch Cemetery was built by WIlliam T. Speight. A son of William T. , James, wrote a book "The King of the Hunters". James had two brothers in the Civil War, (Seth and Francis).
